Fusion Accelerator and Drupal 7

Moving into Drupal 7 territory

Fusion is making serious headway into Drupal 7! After many months of working with Drupal 7 and Skinr, the decision was made to create a skin tool for Fusion itself, and we brought the tool in house. We could not ask our customers to wait any longer.

Fusion Accelerator

Fusion themes are now dependent on the Fusion Accelerator module. Fusion Accelerator includes a fork of Skinr called Fusion Apply. It also includes other features such as a grid tool for themers to use to easily create new Fusion ready grids. The Fusion Apply Rules module allows you to quickly create rulesets for the application of your skins to different pages and regions of your site.

If you’re already using Fusion and Skinr, we’ve written some documentation on updating your current theme. You can see many of these items in our documentation here:Getting Started with Fusion Apply and here: Creating Fusion Apply Styles.

If you’re already using a Fusion sub-theme for Drupal 7, you should also see our general upgrade documentation here, and if you’re using Drupal 6 and want to move all the way to our lastest versions, then Converting Drupal 6 to Drupal 7 themes is the place to go.

Theme updates?

We’re working hard to update our themes as quickly as possible. We’ve got one all new premium theme for Drupal 7, and two updated themes, as well as updates for Fusion Core and Acquia Marina. If you already own a Fusion theme, you’ll receive an email when your theme is updated. Look for a post on our Drupal Commerce based themes, coming soon!

Anything else?

You bet! If you’re interested in responsive theming, have a look at Fusion’s development release on Drupal.org. That’s right, we’re adding responsive features into Fusion! We’re very excited to be doing this, so keep an eye on us for more information on this too!

This site runs on the Fusion theme for Drupal

Fusion is a powerful Drupal theme framework, with point-and-click layouts & built in styles for blocks, Views, and other modules. Download a Fusion theme for an instant, easy to configure design, or harness the power of Fusion in your own subtheme for a totally custom look.

And it’s free!

Demo

When i visited the both Fusion Accelerator and Fusion project pages on Drupal, there is not any demo for it. Many users like to see the demo firstly before installing Fusion Accelerator and Fusion theme. So i think its better to provide a theme for users who are not familiar with this theme.

Why fork?

Just curious, you mentioned you couldn't wait for Skinr for Drupal 7 but I was wondering why you forked it instead of helping out with the Skinr development? Did you want to take a totally different path?

I don't understand why you have to fork Skinr module. Could you help Skinr maintainers to achieve stable version of D7 Skinr?

I feel like forking skinr was done purely for marketing reasons so the module can have the fusion brand on it and so you have more control which isn't how the Drupal community works and certainly makes me concerned. Could you please explain why you forked the module, one person already asked and want given a reply.

Why we forked Skinr

For those who are concerned and asking why we forked Skinr, there are a number of reasons and this issue is addressed on the Fusion Accelerator project page under the heading "A note about Fusion Apply and Skinr".

Fusion Apply is the only part of Fusion Accelerator which is related to Skinr and Fusion Accelerator was going to happen whether or not it involved a fork of Skinr. We did attempt to work with the Skinr developers, but they were not sure what direction they wanted to take the module in and we were at the mercy of their decision making process, which we could not participate in.

Considering that we were already planning a module suite to handle other functionality (such as responsive layouts) it made sense to roll the Skinr-like functionality into one central module, where we would have the freedom to develop and evolve it to match what we need for our customers.
